OUR STORY

Free Bird Support Services was founded in 2022 by Adam Halse and Chris Turner after recognising a need for something different within the disability sector.

After spending more than 10 years working in the disability unit within the correctional system, Adam saw the challenges many people and families faced when trying to navigate support. He saw how easy it was for participants to get lost in a system that could sometimes feel impersonal, and he wanted to create a service where people were truly known, understood and supported.

The name Free Bird was created from a belief that people should never feel limited by their disability or the expectations placed around them. Everyone deserves the opportunity to explore their abilities, try new things and have the freedom to create a life that is meaningful to them.

After years of working together as Correctional Officers and building a strong friendship, Adam approached Chris with his vision for Free Bird. With Chris bringing his own experiences as a father of two children with additional needs, they shared a common goal of creating a support service built on trust, connection and understanding.

From the beginning, Free Bird has been about more than providing support. It is about seeing the person first, building genuine connections and creating opportunities for people to grow, achieve their goals and enjoy life on their own terms.
